Grand Chief Membertou and 24 members of his family stepped forward and became the first Migmag to be baptized. This happened on June 4th 1610. Next year on 2010, there will be a celebration on Chapel Island Nova Scotia to mark 400 years of that event. The rumor mill has it that invitations to the Vatican have been sent by the Migmag Grand Council. However, you might want to ask your District reprepresentative to the Grand Council for an update. It was hoped that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI would make an appearance.

Every summer, the Migmag Grand Council hold two of their general meetings. The first meeting is held on Penticost Sunday, which is the first or second Sunday in June. The other is during the St.Anne's celebration, held on the 3rd Sunday in July.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the youth wrestlers. I will certainly support these youths when I see them fundraising. I think some of the best sports people (and champions) come from our community. Good luck during your upcoming finals in Ontario.

CONFERENCE WITH THE OCCAWA AND MICMAC TRIBES WITH REFERENCES TO THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE COLONIES AND BRITAIN; INCLUDES A COPY OF THE TREATY, WITH DISCUSSIONS REGARDING AN ALLIANCE AND CREATION OF AN INDIAN REGIMENT TO FIGHT WITH GEN. WASHINGTON, AND SUPPLIES.

Interesting archive at the Massachusetts state archives regarding the Watertown treaty of 1776.

Go to this link: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ArchivesSearch/RevolutionarySearch.aspx

Put in Watertown (MA) for location and Micmac Indians for the subject.
